Author Michael Finklea visits Mixon

March 12, 2008

 

Author Michael Finklea visited students in first through fifth to share his experiences as an author. He told of his experiences in writing and the importance of rewriting materials until they are perfect. He encouraged students to be writers and use classroom instruction to make their writing better. Students were given an opportunity to purchase books. Here students are meeting with the author and having their books signed by him.

Mike Dreiblatt and Steve Breakstone of Balance Education Services discuss bullying and social aggression with the students at Mixon.  All grade levels attended workshops and learned about what to do in a bullying situation.  Teachers attended a workshop after school.  Parents were invited to a community workshop in the evening.                                                            To see more go to www.BalanceEducation.net

Honors Day and Concert

Josh and Michael join Tim Wells in a patriotic medly to open the honors day celebration.

HAVE A COW!

       

First graders have fun learning about the dairy business with Matt and Jane the cow.  Students learned how to milk a cow and facts about milk products.

November 14, 2007

Mixon celebrated American Education Week by invititng retirees to lunch at school.  The retired teachers enjoyed visiting both teachers and children.

October 5, 2007

First Grade students learned about fire safety with instruction from the firefighters in Ozark.  The firetruck and Little Fire SafetyHouse came to Mixon to inform the students about the career of a firefighter and how to exit a burning building safely.

Spring 2007

Author and Storyteller Carmen Deedy visited Mixon in March of 2007.

Eager students listened to her stories about how she learned to read and her life experiences as a young girl growing up in the south.

Fall 2006

Barbara McGrath the author of the M&M Counting books entertained students with her experiences as an author.

Activated Storytellers

February 2007

The activated storytellers enthralled the students with fables and folklore in in conjunction with Dr. Seuss Day celebrations.
