Alabama is rapidly becoming known for its high quality golf courses, especially those comprising the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. In addition to golf, cities and towns are developing more athletic and sports fields to meet the needs of their communities, In an effort to maintain quality golf courses and athletic fields, a need for skilled turf managers has evolved. Career Center students have the opportunity to learn the skills to work in this competitive field.

In the Agricience program, the course Sports and Recreational Turf management provides a student with the skills necessary to conduct soil samples, operate fairway and greens mowers, top-dress greens and athletic fields, back lap mowers, fertilize and lime, develop a maintenance schedule, line-off athletic fields, create decorative designs on the fields  for athletics events, etc. Each student develops an extensive portfolio that is assessed by the instructor and used by the student to show prospective employers knowledge and skills acquired at the Career Center.
