Mixon and Lisenby Elementary Schools were awarded Renaissance Learning Master School Status. A celebration for reaching this level was held at city hall on April 6th. As the teachers arrived, cheerleaders and band members congratulated them and played the CHS fight song. CHS Eagle Reps greeted them with more congratulations. Mr. Lenhart, Mayor Blackwell and Congressman Bobby Bright all congratulated both schools. PTOs at each school provided great refreshments. A fun time was had by all.

To achieve Renaissance Master School certification, a school's leadership must demonstrate that their students are maintaining high quality practice in reading. In addition, teachers must actively work with individual students to meet recommended standards and assist all students to work at the level that promotes the most growth in reading. Students work towards their own individual goals and receive awards and fun activities for achieving their goals. Last year, only 10 schools in Alabama made the Master School distinction and only 112 schools in the United States achieved this award. Teachers, media specialists, special area teachers and principals worked tirelessly to provide our students with opportunities to improve their reading skills. We are so proud of both of our elementary schools for this prestigious award.
