Three CarrollHigh School band members participated in the state’s highest All-State Band at Auburn during spring break. Performing in the Alabama All-State Red Band were Sophia Boose, Robbie Clayson, and Kassi Williams. They earned their positions through auditions held in January.
All three students competed in the Alabama State Solo Contest held in conjunction with the All-State Band Festival. This is the highest level of competition for individual players in the state. During their first appearance at the State Solo Contest, Sophia and Kassi earned “Good” ratings for their performances. In his fifth appearance, Robbie earned a rating of “Superior” and, for the fourth consecutive year, Robbie earned a position in the Finals Competition.
Out of over 70 students from around the state who, only 8 were selected for the Finals Competition. Robbie placed 7th. Robbie also earned First Chair in the Red Band, making him the highest ranking percussionist in the state of Alabama for the past two years.
The Carroll High School Band is the only band in the state to have a member earn a position in the Finals Competition since the inception of the event 7 years ago, and Robbie is the only student in the state to have earned a position in Finals four times.
